ACM, the Association for Computing Machinery

ACM - is the world's oldest and largest educational and scientific computing society. Since 1947 ACM has provided a vital forum for the exchange of information, ideas, and discoveries. Today, ACM serves a membership of computing professionals and students in more than 100 countries in all areas of industry, academia, and government. It delivers resources that advance computing as a science and a profession. ACM provides the computing field’s premier Digital Library and serves its members and the computing profession with leading-edge publications, conferences, and career resources.

ACM - is an international scientific and educational organization dedicated to advancing the arts, sciences, and applications of information technology. With a world-wide membership ACM is a leading resource for computing professionals and students working in the various fields of Information Technology, and for interpreting the impact of information technology on society.

The new beta version of  acm.org  has recently appeared - plonebeta.acm.org  based on Plone. As the PageRank of acm.org is 9, one can assume that this newly created Plone-based ACMsite will probably be the second-high ranked Plone site after Plone.org.

howdy :)

Ehm, we don't actually plan on launching this until January. It will break a great deal, and often, and ACM Members cannot login yet. :)

That said, I am not terribly concerned about performance, but we will have to carefully design some parts of our system, as anyone would, to compensate for having a huge library of documents and tons of other content. We've been running Plone for almost two years at http://www.siggraph.org/, and were recently slashdotted with no hiccup on our Zope server.

The design for our new site is better conveyed at:

http://beta.acm.org/

What we have now at plonebeta is just some custom colors and a logo slapped onto default Plone.

Thanks for the attention. ;)

Okay, and I hate the way that comment formatting works now, add me to the long list.

I wrote a short blog in response to this post:

Update: launch plans

Posted by justizin at 2007-01-12 09:56 PM

Howdy, if anyone is listening, we plan to launch a replacement for the flat www.acm.org site by end of this month, groups within our organization are adopting Plone at a growing rate, and hopefully long before the end of this year Plone will begin delivering a new service called myACM to our Members.

Cheers!
